Position Overview

Community Building Services (CBS) is seeking a dynamic and culturally engaged individual to serve as a Part-Time Family Strengthening Coordinator. This role supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of community-based social work case management services, workshops, and events for families, with a focus on inclusivity, creativity, and community engagement.

Work Schedule & Location

  • Schedule: Saturdays, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (provide available schedule)

Employment Information

  • Employment Type: Part-time, grant-funded position. CBS makes no guarantee, either expressed or implied, that the position will continue for the duration of the grant. Continued employment is contingent upon grant extension and organizational discretion.
  • Contract Period: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027
  • Salary Range: $16 – $21 per hour (DOE & funding availability; per CBS Employee Handbook)

Job Summary

The Family Strengthening Coordinator is responsible for meeting Refugee Capacity Building Grant (RCBG) requirements through case management, home visits, attending required training and organizational development & leadership meetings, planning & workshop coordination, and community engagement activities.

The role includes planning and delivering family-focused services, supporting ongoing programs, and coordinating events across two core areas:

  • Workshop planning, coordination, and delivery
  • Compliance with RCBG program requirements

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination & Workshops

  • Coordinate required workshops in collaboration with the Refugee Service Office (RSO) and external facilitators
  • Ensure completion of required topic areas:
    • Employment/Economic Development (completed in year 1)
    • Life in America & Civic Engagement (completed in year 1)
  • Develop and submit a community workshop calendar by mid-July
  • Plan additional workshops based on community needs

Program Administration & Compliance

  • Meet all RCBG program requirements and reporting standards
  • Maintain and update the program data tracker within five (5) days of activities
  • Conduct pre- and post-program surveys
  • Collect participant success stories
  • Support invoice processing and documentation

Meetings & Training

  • Attend monthly in-person meetings with the CBS Grant Program Manager
  • Attend CBS Board Meetings as required if you’re serving as a board member as well
  • Participate in mandatory RSO trainings and meetings

Community Engagement & Events

  • Assist in planning and hosting two annual cultural events (April & September)
  • Engage families and promote CBS programs and services

Case Management & Home Visits

  • Provide 1:1 services through home visits or at the Columbus Center
  • Conduct home visits following established protocols
  • Identify family needs, strengths, and opportunities
  • Connect families to resources and services
  • Recruit youth participants for CBS programs
  • Educate parents about program benefits and participation

Administrative Duties

  • Work within assigned budgeted hours
  • Track and collect program-related payments/checks in a timely manner
  • Submit a weekly schedule and maintain accountability

Purpose of Home Visits

  • Identify and address family needs and opportunities
  • Recruit youth participants into CBS programs
  • Educate families about CBS services and benefits
  • Share external and internal community resources
  • Encourage participation in programs, events, and workshops

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in one of the following or related fields:
    • Social Work
    • Sociology
    • Psychology
    • Human Services
    • Community Development
    • Education
    • Public Administration
  • Master’s degree desired (e.g., MSW, MPA, Counseling, or related disciplines)
  • Relevant certifications or specialized training in case management, youth development, trauma-informed care, or community-based services are highly desirable
  • A combination of relevant education and professional experience working with refugee, immigrant, or underserved communities may be considered in lieu of minimum degree requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with refugee, immigrant, and multicultural communities, especially Nepali-speaking populations
  • Prior experience in case management, family services, or youth program coordination
  • Familiarity with Refugee Capacity Building Grant (RCBG) programs, reporting, or similar grant-funded initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability in community outreach, workshop facilitation, and event coordination
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills (e.g., Nepali and English) strongly preferred
  • Experience conducting home visits and applying culturally responsive or trauma-informed approaches
  • Strong understanding of local community resources and service networks in Utah
  • Experience using data tracking systems, surveys, and program evaluation tools
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to transportation preferred

Certifications (Preferred/Desired)

  • Case Management (e.g., Social Work or Human Services Case Management Certificate)
  • Training or certification in Home Visiting Practices or Family Support Services
  • Family Advocacy or Family Strengthening Programs
  • Training in Trauma-Informed Care
  • Youth Development or Positive Youth Engagement
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred for youth program settings)
  • Any relevant certification in community health work, cultural competency, or social service delivery
