Hi, I’m Tek.
Born and educated in high school in Bhutan, I faced a major turning point in life due to the ethnic cleansing policies of the Bhutanese government in the early 1990s. My family was forced to leave behind everything we had known, and, like many others, we sought refuge in Eastern Nepal. We lived for twenty-two years in the Khudunabari Refugee Camp, a challenging experience that profoundly shaped my understanding of resilience, adaptability, and the strength of community.
Despite these hardships, I have been blessed with a loving and supportive family. My wife, who is dedicated and hardworking, has been my steadfast life partner, and our three children, all bright and driven, continue to inspire me every day. Every success I have achieved is a direct result of their unwavering support and encouragement. Their faith in me fuels my commitment to creating positive change for communities, and their sacrifices are a constant reminder of the importance of giving back and lifting others. Through each challenge and achievement, I am reminded that my journey is not mine alone—it is a shared journey built on the love, strength, and unity of my family.
As a visionary leader dedicated to creating a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive community, I am committed to the mission of Community Building Services (CBS) to enhance community cohesion, promote economic growth, ensure environmental justice, foster social inclusion, and support good governance. With a blend of strategic leadership, operational oversight, and a deep understanding of the organization’s mission and community needs, I focus on the following priorities to guide CBS toward long-term success.
In Strategic Leadership, I am dedicated to advancing CBS’s vision, mission, and strategic goals, guiding initiatives that ensure sustainability and growth. Through Operational Management, I oversee daily operations, facilitate program development and evaluation, and ensure that all activities align with CBS’s values and mission.
In Grant Management, I am committed to securing and managing diverse funding sources to support our mission. I lead efforts in grant proposal development, administration, and compliance to maximize resources and program impact, collaborating closely with program and finance staff. My commitment to Reporting and Evaluation includes collecting and analyzing data to demonstrate our successes and address challenges transparently, ensuring funders receive timely and comprehensive updates.
Through Stakeholder Communication, I serve as a liaison to funders, stakeholders, and community partners, fostering clear and aligned communication. I prioritize Training and Capacity Building for staff, providing resources and training in grant compliance and reporting to strengthen CBS’s grant management capabilities.
I am dedicated to Compliance and Risk Management, staying informed on regulatory changes, and implementing procedures to meet legal and ethical standards. My focus on Collaboration and Networking enables CBS to build lasting relationships with funders and community allies, while my commitment to Continuous Improvement drives ongoing refinement of processes and adoption of best practices.
Financial Oversight is central to my commitment to ensuring CBS’s financial stability. I work to allocate resources effectively, prepare and manage the annual budget, and lead fundraising initiatives. Through Board Relations, I keep our board well-informed, fostering productive engagement and decision-making.
In Staff Management, I strive to create a positive organizational culture. By recruiting result-driven, dedicated, and high-performing employees, and mentoring, and evaluating staff, I support professional growth and high performance across the team, fostering an environment of collaboration and learning.
Fundraising and Resource Development is essential to my role. I seek diverse funding sources and cultivate relationships with donors and stakeholders, ensuring sustainable support for CBS’s mission. Through Community Engagement, I represent CBS at public events, build relationships with local leaders, and uphold CBS’s visibility and reputation.
In Advocacy and Public Policy, I work to advance policies aligned with our mission, actively engaging with government and community partners to influence positive change. My commitment to Performance Measurement ensures that data-driven insights guide our strategies, enhancing CBS’s impact and efficacy.
As a Founder and Executive Director, I am wholeheartedly committed to guiding CBS toward a future of resilience and inclusivity, empowering our community, and preserving our cultural heritage through effective, innovative, and sustainable leadership.
