We are thrilled to announce that Nepali Humanities on Saturdays at Columbus Adult Education & Youth Program will host a vibrant Nepali New Year Celebration on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This community-wide event, generously funded by Utah Humanities PG25.04 Grant, is free and open to all, offering an enriching experience that reflects the profound significance of the humanities in our lives.
Honoring Culture Through the Humanities
The Nepali New Year Celebration is more than just a festival—it is a powerful platform for exploring the human experience through art, storytelling, history, and shared traditions. This event serves as a bridge between generations and cultures, fostering a deep appreciation for identity, heritage, and intercultural connections.
Through traditional dance, music, and oral storytelling, attendees will witness how humanities shape our understanding of the past while guiding us toward the future. Special guest scholars and community leaders will share insights into the role of humanities in preserving traditions, strengthening social bonds, and enhancing community well-being.
A Gathering of Scholars and Community Leaders
We are honored to have distinguished speakers, including:
- Dr. Miguel, Director of Community Scholars and Evaluation at University Neighborhood Partners
- Jennifer Mayer Glenn, Director at University Neighborhood Partners
- Dr. Paul Ross, MESA Consultant and long-time advocate for refugee and immigrant communities
Their expertise and reflections will highlight the intersections of culture, migration, resilience, and storytelling, reinforcing the humanities’ role in shaping our collective identity.
Strengthening Community Through Humanities
This celebration is designed to engage, educate, and connect the Nepali community and the broader public. Humanities help us understand diverse perspectives, reflect on shared histories, and foster unity—all of which will be central to this event. Whether through cultural performances, interactive discussions, or shared meals, the Nepali New Year Celebration will create a welcoming space for dialogue, learning, and joy.
